The Clean Water Construction Coalition
As we have reported over the past few months, House Republicans are committed to enacting drastic spending cuts that will be devastating to water systems across the country. As expected, the House Appropriations Committee passed an appropriations bill last week that slashes funding for the Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRFs) by $1.7 billion.
The Clean Water Construction Coalition (CWCC) has continued to urge House members to reject any SRF funding cuts and oppose the use of earmarks as takedowns from base funding levels. Just last month, we joined with lawmakers who were leading an effort to reject these irresponsible cuts to the SRFs. In addition, the CWCC wrote to House and Senate Appropriations Committee members asking them to provide higher levels of funding for SRFs and discontinue the use of earmarks to reduce SRF funds.
Despite these and other repeated efforts to head off these cuts, the House Appropriations Committee voted 29-25 to pass the bill along party lines and it now heads for a vote in the full House.
As such, we urge CWCC members to contact your Representatives and ask them to oppose the FY25 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act which would be disastrous for many water systems that rely on SRF funding for critical clean water infrastructure projects.
Attached is a draft letter that you can use to compose correspondence to the members of your Congressional delegation. In addition, you can find contact information for your Representatives by visiting https://www.congress.gov/contact-us
